On Saturday, May 5, 2007, I flew my Cleanex to Dunnellon for a mini SonexFest. We met at the hangar of Mike January. Flying in also were Dan Weseman in his Cleanex, and Bob Adams in his tri-gear Sonex.
Mike brought colas and water, and we spent a few hours admiring the craftsmanship of each others projects. Mike and Bob had recently painted Bob's Sonex, and it looked great! We all were jealous of the instrumentation and interior in Mike's Waiex.
I understand that upon arrival Dan performed a roll and then a high speed pass down the runway with a Spitfire Curved Approach to landing. Sorry I missed that!! On departure Dan took off on 27, with me right behind. We made a low left turn into a base and final for 5 and made a low level high speed (about 170 mph) pass down 5, pulled up HARD, 90° bank left turn, then a wing waggle as we left the airport. I hope it was as exciting for Mike as it was for us!!
There was talk of starting a Florida Wing of the Sonex Air Force. Anyone interested e-mail me, and we'll see what we can put something together!
Enjoy the photos (click on a photo for a larger image)! Sorry I didn't get any interior shots, next time...
